Coach Shawn
Originally from Washington, DC, I have now settled in Charlotte, North Carolina, where I live with my spouse and twin student-athletes. My life and career are deeply intertwined with collegiate athletics, particularly compliance, where I have spent the last seven years navigating the complex regulations and guiding student-athletes through their educational and athletic paths. My passion lies in helping student athletes grow into independent adults, giving them the tools to balance both academics and sports while ensuring they meet all NCAA and institutional requirements.
Certifying student-athletes has given me a unique insight into the regulations and nuances of collegiate compliance, and my love for networking within athletics has led to valuable connections with peers and industry experts. I have earned a reputation for being resourceful and compassionate, and often sought out for guidance in solving compliance issues and navigating the NCAA’s regulatory frameworks.
Two of my most notable professional accomplishments reflect my ability to innovate and lead within the compliance field. In 2021, I secured the first-ever USA Cycling HBCU Grant for an athletics department, demonstrating my skill in grant applications which created new opportunities for the department. In 2018, I played a vital role in the success of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship, handling key aspects like hospitality supervision, venue management, and procurement for the four-day event. My robust organizational skills and attention to detail ensured the event ran smoothly, even within the tight timelines and high expectations that come with such a high-profile event.
Today, I am embarking on an exciting entrepreneurial venture with the launch of Coach Shawn Compliance Consulting, LLC. This business is a culmination of my years of expertise, resourcefulness, and passion for helping others, providing compliance consulting services for colleges and universities. My goal isn’t just professional success but also to be a role model for my twin daughters, student athletes, and mentees, showing them the value of turning passion into a business and demonstrating how dedication and hard work can lead to entrepreneurship.
By founding Coach Shawn Compliance Consulting, I am positioning myself as a trusted consultant, ready to help institutions navigate the intricate world of collegiate athletics compliance, while also inspiring others, including my daughters, to follow their dreams.
